Senior Concept Artist
About Massive Brush Studios
Massive Brush Studios is a remote-first game development studio building high-quality titles across multiple platforms. Visual development is a core part of how we define a game's identity — concept art sets the tone for every asset that follows, from characters to environments to UI. We care deeply about craft and creative clarity.
The Role
We're looking for a Senior Concept Artist who can work across multiple visual challenges — character design, environment mood paintings, prop sheets, and style guide development. You'll be one of the primary visual voices on the projects you work on, collaborating closely with the art director, 3D artists, and game designers.
If you've incorporated AI tools (Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, Adobe Firefly, or similar) into your ideation or exploration workflow — that's a genuine advantage here. We don't require it, but we value artists who understand how to use AI as a tool for speed and exploration without letting it replace original thinking.
What You'll Do
- Develop character concepts from brief to final approval — expressions, costume variations, turnarounds
- Create environment mood paintings, establishing shots, and location mood boards
- Design props, weapons, vehicles, and key items with clear production-ready reference sheets
- Contribute to and help define the visual style guide for assigned projects
- Iterate based on art director feedback efficiently — multiple rounds without quality loss
- Collaborate with 3D artists to ensure concept art translates cleanly into production assets
- Use AI tools for rapid ideation, variation exploration, or texture/material reference when applicable
- Annotate and document concept sheets with material, color, and construction notes for production teams
What We're Looking For
REQUIREMENTS
- 5+ years professional concept art experience — shipped game credits strongly preferred
- Strong foundational skills: anatomy, perspective, lighting, color theory, composition
- Proficient in Photoshop and/or Procreate; comfortable with digital painting at production speed
- Experience designing across multiple categories: characters, environments, and props
- Ability to work within a defined art style and adapt your approach to match project direction
- Can deliver clean, annotated, production-ready sheets — not just mood paintings
- Fluent English · Same-day responsiveness
STRONG PLUS POINTS
- AI workflow integration — Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, Adobe Firefly for ideation or exploration
- Experience creating or contributing to a visual style guide from scratch
- 3D blocking or greyboxing skills (Blender, SketchUp) for environment concepting
- Creature or fantasy character design experience
- UI/UX visual design or iconography experience
- Concept work for AAA or mid-tier console/PC titles
- Ability to art-direct or provide feedback to junior concept artists
On AI Workflow — Our Honest Position
We're not looking for an artist who generates concepts entirely with AI and calls it done. We're looking for someone who understands that AI is a starting point for exploration — one tool among many — and who knows when to use it and when to put it aside. If you've developed a workflow where AI helps you generate thumbnails faster, explore color variations, or rough out environment compositions before painting over them, that's genuinely interesting to us. Tell us about it.
Communication Requirements — Non-negotiable
Fluent English — written and spoken, used in daily collaboration
Same-day responsiveness during working hours — not 24-48 hours
Proactive updates — flag blockers or delays without being asked
Comfortable with async tools: Slack/Discord, video calls, written feedback
What We Offer
- Fully remote — work from anywhere in our supported regions
- Salary range: Up to $2000
- Direct collaboration with art director and 3D team — no layers of bureaucracy
- A team that values strong creative instincts alongside technical execution
- Flexible working hours with async-first communication
